[first impressions]
Does the professionalism of your site mirror the professionalism of your business? A viewer’s “first impression” of your website or blog will be in its appearance.
In fact, the findings in a study by B.J. Fogg of Stanford University “Stanford Guidelines for Web Credibility”, showed that:
“75% of web users admit to deciding on the credibility of a business or organization based on its website appearance.”
And that makes perfect sense. Most people are visual. What they see influences what they think, and ultimately what they do. If the homepage of your site looks as though you’ve thrown it together yourself, is ill-organized, messy, has poor navigation, unsightly layout, and a bad color scheme, it obviously does nothing to encourage the viewer to continue looking.
Furthermore, studies show that a viewer generally makes a decision in a nanosecond as to whether they will stay on your site or move along to something else. That isn’t much time to make a good impression, but a well laid out site will certainly enhance the odds.
